Tech Trek: A Teen Tech Adventure

Overview

Tech Trek: A Teen Tech Adventure is a 5-day intensive technology bootcamp held annually at the University of Malta, Msida Campus, co-organised by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), Tech.mt, and the University of Malta's Faculty of ICT. It is targeted at secondary school students in Year 9 to Year 11 (ages 13–15) and provides hands-on, project-based learning in artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, and game design. Each day runs from 08:30 to 13:00, including two 30-minute breaks. The programme requires no prior coding experience and is intentionally accessible at a nominal fee of €30. Over 40 students have participated in previous editions, working alongside expert mentors from MDIA, Tech.mt, and the University's Faculty of ICT.

Tech Trek is part of a wider MDIA summer tech programme that also includes the xPloring Intelligence Bootcamp (Year 7–8) and the Gozo Tech Whiz Summer School (Year 1–6 equivalent, Gozo-based) — giving students a progression pathway through tech education from primary to secondary level.
