The Youth Fitness Support Scheme (YFSS) is a government initiative run by the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR) that provides six months of free gym membership to all young people born between 2004 and 2009 residing in Malta and Gozo. The scheme covers initial membership fees at registered gyms across Malta and Gozo, with no income test or means-testing — every eligible young person qualifies regardless of financial background. The YFSS was first launched in 2023 for those born between 2005 and 2007, and was extended in Budget 2026 to cover all those born between 2004 and 2009. Young people who already benefited from the scheme in a previous year are not eligible to apply again in the same calendar year.
Six months of free gym membership at any gym registered under the YFSS across Malta and Gozo. The process is instant:
No waiting period, no interview, no income check. The scheme covers initial membership fees only — any gym-specific extras (personal training, lockers, classes outside the standard membership) are at the member's own cost.
