Blockcerts - Digital Certificates

Overview

Blockcerts is Malta's official digital certification platform, developed as part of the world's first national rollout of blockchain-based academic credentials. It allows students and graduates to receive, store, and share their educational certificates in a secure, instantly verifiable digital format — without relying on paper copies. Certificates issued via Blockcerts are internationally portable, tamper-proof, and can be shared with employers, universities, or other institutions directly from your phone.

The Blockcerts Wallet app is available free of charge on Android and iOS. Downloading the app is now optional — certificates can also be received and downloaded as a PDF document directly from the invitation email, but downloading the app is recommended as it keeps all your certificates in one place for easy access and sharing.

Blockcerts certificates are currently issued to the following groups in Malta:

  • Year 11 students (School Leaving Certificate)
  • MCAST students
  • Institute for the Public Services (IPS) programme and course graduates
  • ITS Skills Pass holders
  • ICT C3 Certificate holders
  • ICDL Malta candidates (as of December 2023)
  • St John Ambulance and Rescue

What you'll get

All your Maltese academic and vocational certificates stored securely in one place on your mobile phone or tablet — including IPS Certificates, School Leaving Certificates, ICT C3 Certificates, MCAST certificates, and ICDL Certificates. Certificates remain with you for life and can be shared digitally with employers, schools, or universities for instant verification. The authenticity of any Blockcerts certificate can be verified using the Blockcerts Universal Verifier or institution-specific verifiers (e.g. the ICDL Malta Certificate Verifier).

Eligibility

Available to anyone aged 16 and over who has been issued a certificate by a Maltese educational institution participating in the Blockcerts platform, including Year 11 students, MCAST students, IPS graduates, ICDL candidates, and ITS Skills Pass holders. You do not need to apply, certificates are issued automatically by your institution when you qualify.

How to apply

You do not apply directly for Blockcerts. Your institution issues your certificate automatically. You will receive two separate emails:

  1. The first email invites you to download the Blockcerts Wallet App (optional but recommended) — search for "Blockcerts Wallet" on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and install it.
  2. The second email (sent around June for school certificates) confirms your digital credential is ready — click the green "Import" button to save it to your Wallet.

If you choose not to download the app, you can still download your certificate as a PDF from the second email.

Important: Use a personal email address (not a school, work, or organisation email) when registering with your institution, as certificate emails are sent to this address.
